"I'm astonished at how right it sounds" Kris Page

A church book group. Not a Bible study – a book study. More like a book reflection group.
Question: Why are or aren’t you a Christian?
OMG. . .What a question to ask in the library of a Methodist Church! But I respond. Honestly.
“Yes, I am a Christian. Not the same Christian as I was a few years ago, however.”
Used to be so rigid. So black and white. Not that those attitudes aren’t still in my wheelhouse. But they are less and less prominent. Because they just don’t make sense anymore.
OMG. . .In So Many ways. . .Contradictions.
And the pendulum is swinging. Has been for a while. And stopping in a place I never imagined possible.
A place guided by Richard Rohr. Henri Nouwen. Barbara Brown Taylor. And now Paul Dazet. “Out of the box” thinkers, wonderers, willing to ponder the mystery of God. Not about rules, punishment, judgement.. .but God’s all consuming love. Always.
OMG. . .Hell. . .Died for our sins. . .Salvation. . .Atonement. . .Can’t live with what was taught.
Just doesn’t make sense anymore.
An email exchange with a California friend. We seem to be making the same journey at the same time. “I’m astonished at how right it sounds”, she wrote.
OMG. . .that about sums it up! It IS astonishing. And it DOES sound right.
So here I am, climbing “out of the box”. Maybe not all the way yet. But one leg is completely out and the other on the edge. Because. . .
“I’m astonished at how right it sounds.”
OMG. . .In So Many Ways.
