(A follow-up story from Darkness to Light… and different kind of reflection)
Santa Fe comes alive during the summer. There is truly an excitement that one feels, which puts this warm season into a category all its own. The huge markets, with vendors selling authentic merchandise (Folk Art Market, Spanish Market and Indian Market). The streets leading out from the Plaza are packed with with locals and tourists buying treasures – needed or not!
And then there are the concerts at various venues. My favorite being The Bandstand at Santa Fe Plaza. This is where my story takes me last Wednesday evening, the day of “Darkness to Light”.
My friend and I set up our chairs, wedged between “saved” blankets and white folding chairs on either side. But that is what these free music offerings are like – squeeze in where you can!
On the other side of the folding chairs was a park bench where a couple had taken up residence! Soon after we had settled in, the park bench lady came over to chat with us. No – we had never seen her before. She was visiting here from Texas, although she had been born in Los Alamos, NM. I think if one has any kind of ties with NM it sort of leaves a place in the soul. It’s like always pulling you back.
As our conversation continued, it got a little deeper and deeper. I felt a connection. It was as if God were walking me out of my melancholy into the light, the journey I had written about that morning. A perfect stranger, who took the time to take me by the hand and say, “Come on, let’s dance.” I love to dance, but in recent years, with my knee and hip surgeries, it is a bit of a challenge. But that evening I did. And I felt the light.
When it was time for she and her husband to go for dinner, she looked me in the eyes and said, “This has been a moment in time hasn’t it?” And I knew exactly what she meant.
We probably will not see each other ever again. I don’t even know her last name. But for that brief-moment in time, a special moment in time – strangers became friends.
And I couldn’t help but think it was also a “God moment”. A message to keep my heart open. God has so many ways to lift a low hanging cloud. His world is so much bigger than I allow for.

The light in you brings openings from others; Truly God moments and encounters. Thanks for sharing 🦌❤️🥰🙏 Wyn
Nice, God's everywhere, in beauty, in nature, at concerts with dancing.
Thanks.
